Spesso troviamo una sigla particolare quando parliamo di connessioni via cavo o wireless. Cosa significa IEEE? Scoprilo nei seguenti paragrafi.
Cosa significa IEEE?
IEEE è la sigla di Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ed indica l’associazione internazionale di ingegneri e scienziati che lavorano affinché le tecnologie siano disponibili a tutti tramite precise regole. Per permettere che una tecnologia venga sfruttata (indipendentemente dal dispositivo che usi) è necessario che tale tecnologia sia standardizzata, ossia abbia regole e protocolli ben precisi. I produttori dovranno rispettare le specifiche IEEE affinché tale tecnologia sia compatibile con tutti i dispositivi che la usano.
Sono molte le tecnologie che usi quotidianamente ad essere standardizzate dalla IEEE, eccone un elenco parziale:
- Wi-Fi: rispetta lo standard IEEE 802.11
- Ethernet: rispetta lo standard IEEE 802.3
- Bluetooth: rispetta lo standard IEEE 802.15.1
Senza lo standard IEEE queste tecnologie non sarebbero universalmente accessibili ai dispositivi, perché ogni produttore potrebbe integrare un protocollo o una funzionalità unica per i dispositivi propri.
Grazie a IEEE la tecnologia è davvero alla portata di tutti: se entri in un negozio con WiFi, sai già che potrai collegare il tuo smartphone senza problemi, così se compri un nuovo router sai già che il cavetto Ethernet del PC sarà compatibile.
